COUNCIL

October 9, 2014

CouncilBig, Big, Big Meeting on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m.

We are starting earlier because we have lots to do. Dinner will be provided!

This is our council officer election meeting. If you are planning on running for an office you must have a completed Officer Application before the meeting starts. Applications, officer expectations, and criteria are located in the Mergelman 4-H Building, Extension office, and at gunnison.colostate.edu. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor on election night. Nominees will need to be present at the October 22 council meeting and prepared to give their reasons for why they want to be an officer. And here are some reasons why you should want to be one:

  • 4-H has been very, very good to you. Here is a way to step up and give back
  • Guarantee you will also gain something back–new skills, increased confidence, admiration, and sense of accomplishment.
  • Looked at a college or scholarship application yet? 4-H club and council leadership roles slide very nicely into the blanks and essays where it asks for involvement and offices held.

Come and get involved. We will also be selecting the Leader of the Year.  Reminder to clubs: please have at least four people in attendance to cast ballots (three members and an enrolled leader).

LEADER OPPORTUNITIES

October 9, 2014

volunteerConsider Joining a Committee

Would you like to have input about workshops, activities, and Cattlemen’s Days exhibits and shows for all project areas? Consider coming to a committee meeting and joining as a leader. (Youth are elected at the October 22 Council meeting.)

As a 4-H member, leader and parent, you will have the opportunity to be part of the committees that make decisions related to projects and events. All of the committees are open to anyone interested in helping to further the 4-H program in Gunnison County. Contact Nadine if you have interest in serving on the Horse Committee, Jr. Livestock Committee, General Project Committee, helping more with your club, or being a project leader.

Mergelman 4-H Building

Cloverbuds is a non-formal program designed for children 5, 6, and 7 years old as of December 31, 2014. They are not “mini-4-H” members. Their needs and interests require activities and events designed especially for them. The program provides opportunities for exploration and active learning in a non-competitive environment. Participation, safety, personal development, learning and fun are the highest priorities. Cloverbud programs are activity focused, not project-focused and are built on cooperative learning rather than competition.

Thank you Lenora Mears for leading this group every 2nd Tuesday of the month.
