Gunnison County 4-h Council and the Leadership Team

Gunnison County 4-H Council officer nominations are open. If you are interested in and can fulfill the responsibilities for an office or committee member you must submit an application by October 22 in the Extension office.  Applications, officer expectations, and criteria are located in the Mergelmen 4-H Building, Extension office, and at gunnison.colostate.edu. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor on election night. Nominees will need to be present at the October 22 council meeting to give a statement of how they will fulfill the duties of the office. Elections will take place at the October meeting. Candidates are also advised to attend the September Council meeting as plans for the year and schedule are made. The following are job descriptions:

President: Presides at all 4-H Council meetings, appoints committees, calls special meetings, preserves order and performs such other duties in the best interest of council.

Vice President: Performs the duties of the president in the absence of the president, and is the chair of committees.

Secretary: Keeps the minutes of each meeting, carries on all official correspondence of the council, and keeps a correct attendance of the council members.

Treasure: Keeps an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and gives a Treasure’s report at each meeting.

Recreation Leader: Attends all council meetings and leads ice breakers, games, and fun activities.

Senators (2): Represent Gunnison County at District meetings in the fall and spring; and, at State meetings in January and June.

Parliamentarian: Gives parliamentarian lessons and tips at each Council Meeting.

Horse Committee Representative, Livestock Committee Representatives, and General Project Committee Representatives: Attend committee meetings and represent 4-H membership. Have responsibilities for specific 4-H events and programs. Must be at least a 5 year 4-H member to serve on Livestock Committee; must be 11 years old to serve on Horse Committee; and must be enrolled in a General project to serve on the General Committee.

Advisor: Attend meetings and agenda prep meeting. May need to advise or help on a committee.
