Big, Big Meeting on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m.
We are starting earlier because we have lots to do. Dinner will be provided!
This is our council officer election meeting. If you are planning on running for an office you must have a completed Officer Application before the meeting starts. All nominees need to be prepared to give their reasons for why they want to be an officer. And here are some reasons why you should want to be one.
4-H has been very, very good to you. Here is a way to step up and give back
Guarantee you will also gain something back–new skills, increased confidence, admiration, and sense of accomplishment.
Looked at a college or scholarship application yet? 4-H club and council leadership roles slide very nicely into the blanks and essays where it asks for involvement and offices held.
Come and get involved. We will also be selecting the Leader of the Year. Reminder to clubs: please have at least four people in attendance to cast ballots (three members and an enrolled leader).
4-H Junior, Intermediate, Senior Members of the Year Nominations Open
Clubs can nominate a candidate for member of the year. You can also nominate yourself for member of the year. There is an award for Junior member, Intermediate member, and Senior member. All candidates must have their Career Summary turned into the Extension Office by October 15. Career Summaries can be picked up at the Extension Office or they are also located on-line under Record Books at http://www.gunnison.colostate.edu. Outstanding members are chosen by a committee. There is a $25.00 award for each 2012-2013 Outstanding 4-H member.
Colorado Leadership Conference
Colorado Leadership Conference sponsored by the Colorado State 4-H Officer Team will be held on November 8-10, 2013 in Glenwood Springs. CLC is for members in grade 6-9. Conference theme is Achieving New Heights and participants will work their way through hands on workshops in addition to fun evening activities.
The cost is $50 which includes lodging, breakfasts, lunch, and workshop costs. Transportation will be provided. Register through 4-HOnline. Deadline is October 25. Contact Nadine with questions or interest at 641-1260.
National Western Stock Show Looking for Calf Catchers
The National Western Stock Show Catch-A-Calf Program is a great program designed to promote youth development and understanding of the cattle industry. This program can provide youth with an opportunity to be part of one of the best programs at the National Western Stock Show. Youth who choose to participate in contest may have a range of experiences raising, feeding and showing beef cattle, all are acceptable. Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of December 31, 2013 to apply; they must also be enrolled in 4-H at the time of application. Successful catchers must have adequate facilities available to house their steer as they are responsible for the care, feeding, and handling of their animal. The applications to participate in this year’s Catch-a-Calf program at the NWSS are now available on line at http://www.nationalwestern.com/catch-a-calf/
Contact Eric or Nadine if you have any questions. Experienced CAC participants Haley Roper and Grace Delany can also answer questions.
Wednesday, October 16, 4:00 p.m.
Re-enrollment and enrollment for the new 4-H year begins this month. There will be no paper enrollment papers. Electronic signatures will be valid. You will have access to the system and your information throughout the 4-H year to update information, add or drop projects, and register for events. The only drawback to the new enrollment process is you will still need to bring payment in person or mail in.
The enrollment system will be open and ready to go October 14. Instructions are online at http://www.gunnison.colostate.edu. You can access the system through the internet at home, the library, school, or in the Extension office.
Enrollment fees for 2013-2014 will stay at $20.00. Re-enrollment deadline will be December 2, 2012. Please help club and project leaders out by getting your enrollments in. Some project work may start in December or earlier.
